Vegetarian Wiltshire Tatties Casserole

Based on a traditional farming recipe from Wiltshire, a county in the West of England, this vegetarian version has all the flavor without the meat.

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 4 tbsp breaded crumbs
  • 120 grams smoked tofu
  • 75 grams softened butter
  • 1 lemon , grated peel
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups green cabbage
  • 2 meduim red onions
  • 2 cups carrots , sliced


  • Scrub the potatoes very well, then prick on both sides and bake at 350 f for about 1 hour
  • Now you can prep the vegetables while the potatoes are baking and then cook the vegetables in a skillet with olive oil until they are soften
  • Scoop out the potato and try not to break the skin
  • Put the potato flesh in a bowl and mix it together with the rest of the ingredients
  • Finally, place back in the potato skin and place them in a casserole dish alongside the vegetables and bake at 400 f for just about 15 to 20 minutes
