Wiltshire Tatties Casserole

People who claim that the English can't cook have clearly never enjoyed this recipe from Wiltshire, England. We've chosen boneless smoked ham from Walmart that gives added flavor to th meal.

  • 4 large potatoes
  • 4 tbsp breaded crumbs
  • 120 grams finely chopped boneless smoked ham
  • 75 grams softened butter
  • 1 lemon , grated peel
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups green cabbage
  • 2 meduim red onions
  • 2 cups carrots , sliced


  • Scrub the potatoes very well, then prick on both sides and bake at 350 F for about 1 hour
  • Now you can prep the vegetables while the potatoes are baking and then cook the vegetables in a skillet with olive oil until they are soften
  • Scoop out the potato and try not to break the skin
  • Put the potato flesh in a bowl and mix it together with the rest of the ingredients
  • Finally, place back in the potato skin and place them in a casserole dish alongside the vegetables and bake at 400 f for just about 15 to 20 minutes
