Easy Teriyaki Sauce
A sauce can make a meal special especially when you're enjoying the outdoors. This simple homemade teriyaki sauce is simple and quick to make.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 5 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 clove finely minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
Extras
- 2-3 tbsp mirin or dry sherry
Instructions
- Mix the cup of water, sugar, soy sauce, honey, garlic and ginger in a small saucepan and heat over medium temperature.
- Mix the cornstarch and 1/4 cup water to make a smooth paste. Slowly add to the heated main mixture until the sauce is the desired thickness.
- Allow to cool and store in an airtight container. I like to use small mason jars.
Little Extra Option
- Add mirin or dry sherry before adding the cornstarch mix.
Notes
Teriyaki sauce will keep in the fridge for an extended period.
If you want to get really fancy add 2-3 tbsp of mirin or substitute with dry sherry. Many recipes suggest adding a little sugar to the sherry but I think this is sweet enough. Your choice. Experiment.
